The 2024 general election produced a generational political shift. A Labour government has been elected with the second-largest majority in the Party’s history, unseating the Conservatives after 14 years, and with a clear mandate for change.
Prime Minister Keir Starmer has been open that his vision for a “decade of national renewal” will require significant industrial and economic policy and regulatory reform. With a 174-seat majority, Keir Starmer and his team must now drive forward rapid change, taking significant decisions on business taxation, spending, and regulation.
The significant shifts in policy that will result will require business to adapt quickly. This is particularly true if they haven’t already engaged with the Party and seized the opportunity to influence the policy agenda before now.
Engaging with the new government immediately, providing expertise and insight, and influencing the approach it takes from the very start, is the best way to protect and improve your policy and regulatory operating environment.
A failure to engage means an opportunity missed for the new government to prioritise your commercial needs.
