Nominet: Mapping the online world around ICANN 55
To visualise the primacy of the .uk domain name, Nominet created a map, using third party data, where country size was proportionate to the number of local domain registrations.
The map demoted the US from superpower status and tiny South Pacific nation, Tokelau, dwarfs all other countries. .uk features prominently as the fourth biggest nation.
The map featured on Vice, The Guardian, The Daily Mirror, Wired, Mashable, and more. It was syndicated multiple times, sparked a Reddit thread, shared over ten thousand times on Twitter and Facebook and drove 50,000 visitors to Nominet’s website in a week- a highly effective asset for driving brand awareness.
